Mining Operations
Emeralds are typically found within host rocks, often in pegmatite or schist formations. These gemstones form under specific geological conditions involving heat, pressure, and mineral-rich fluids over millions of years. The quality of emeralds varies depending on their depth within the deposit, with deeper material generally exhibiting better color saturation, stability, and fewer flaws.Initially, Siimoodi’s mining operations were artisanal, which proved to be slow and inefficient.
Recognizing the need for modernization, the company fully mechanized its site in 2022 by acquiring advanced mining equipment from abroad. To ensure operational efficiency, SIMODI brought in experienced mining engineers, mechanics, and geologists, many of whom were sourced from Zambia, the world’s largest emerald-producing country. This strategic decision significantly improved on-site expertise, leading to enhanced productivity.
Currently, the mine has been excavated to a depth of 35 meters,
